The Palace of the Peak.....

Set in more than 1000 acres of glorious Derbyshire countryside, Chatsworth House is one of the most famous stately homes in England. This unique journey takes the viewer through the most spectacular of Chatsworth’s 300 rooms which contain one of the nation’s finest collections of antiques, furniture and works
of art.

En route we discover some extraordinary treasures - the magnificent State Rooms designed to be used by the crowned heads of Europe, the great dining room where Princess Victoria - later to be Queen Victoria - took her first dinner with adults, along with superb sculptures, rare and beautiful pieces of furniture, and pictures by Van Dyck, Hals and Rembrandt. Today, Chatsworth is still home to the Duke and Duchess of Devonshire, as it has been for more than 300 years.

Outside, our cameras have recorded the changing of the seasons in Chatsworth’s magnificent 100 acre garden, with its famous cascade, rockeries, grotto and azalea dell, set in an unforgettable landscape designed by Lancelot ‘Capability’ Brown.

The program is presented by the Marquess of Hartington, son of the Duke and Duchess of Devonshire, who was brought up at Chatsworth and is heir to the estate.
